Curbside Composting Rules

Mon Mar 31 2025

Hi Neighbors

Starting April 1, 2025, all NYC residents, including our co-op community, will be required to separate food scraps and yard waste for composting as part of the city's new mandatory composting program. This initiative aims to reduce landfill waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and create nutrient-rich compost for local parks and gardens.

Please only place the following in the compartment chute

  • ALL leaf and yard waste, including flowers and Christmas trees
  • ALL food scraps, including meat, bones, shells, and dairy
  • Prepared and cooked foods
  • Greasy uncoated paper plates and pizza boxes
  • Products certified or labeled compostable.

DO NOT compost trash such as wrappers, pet waste, medical waste, diapers, foam, personal, or hygiene products.

DO NOT compost metal glass, plastic, cartons, clean paper, or cardboard.

Compliance is essential, as the city may issue fines for non-participation. Let’s work together to make our co-op greener and contribute to a more sustainable NYC!
