President's Message

It has been a privilege to serve as the President of the Board of Directors for the last year. Your support and encouragement have been greatly appreciated.

This has been a rewarding, but at times quite challenging, journey. Our corporation was in extreme financial distress. We had committed to and begun the extensive brick façade work as required by Local Law 11, but had not secured financing for it.  We were rejected by our previous bank and had to search for a new mortgage lender.

We also were faced with many major repairs to our aging infrastructure. Adding more stress to our budget was an extremely high rate of inflation causing ever-increasing costs of labor and materials.

Despite the many challenges facing the co-op, we have the advantage of having an extremely talented Executive Team and board. I cannot praise them enough.  Of course, I must also recognize our loyal maintenance crew and supportive management team, to which we added a part-time, professional property manager, Mitch Hochhauser.

The efforts of all have begun to improve the conditions at our cooperative. The removal of all the sheds has let light back to our grounds and walkways.  With the services of a new landscaping company, Finesterra, we are working on restoring our exterior to its previous grandeur. Although there is still much to be done, a spirit of optimism is in the air.

Finally, special thanks go to newly elected board member, Xiang (Sean) Li who created this website you are now reading!  Welcome to the 21st century, Mitchell Gardens Co-op #1.

Once again, I thank you for your patience and support.
